About the Campaign for Global Civility

The Campaign for Global Civility was founded in 2005 by the renowned Muslim philanthropist, His Eminence, The Principal Guide, Murshid Abul Burhaan Siddiqi Hijazi who has been at the forefront of the intellectual response against the attempted vilification of Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in parts of Western media, whilst giving a voice of reason for the 1.8 billion Muslims around the world. Focusing on peaceful dialogue rather than confrontation, the Campaign was devised to create common ground between otherwise polarised positions. The campaign defends freedom of speech as a right and privilege, whilst respecting the sanctity of those that we hold dear through self-restraint.

The Campaign for Global Civility seeks to channel what can be a powder-keg of anger and frustration into a constructive dialogue emphasising the need for social cohesion and respect for the beliefs and views of others. By so doing, the Campaign articulates the need for self-restraint and responsibility as a basis for disagreeing agreeably as the cornerstone for civil interaction and behaviour.

The Campaign is now a global initiative, inviting humanity in all its diversity and colour to be part of a significant movement for change. As it gathers pace, it is finding support in all corners of the world, among local, national, and international leaders, as well as among those who defend the right of others to speak freely whilst reminding all to act with civility when doing so.
